When I’m visiting St. Louis for the weekend, I tend to gravitate toward beer and coffee. I don’t know why exactly, but I know that I’m not the only traveler who does this. I have my theories, though, and they’re centered around a deeper love for taking in local flavors and spying on the locals. But, a whole lot of it probably has to do with their mood altering properties. Comet Coffee

This is the kind of place that takes its coffee seriously. You may even refer to the owners as coffee snobs, in the most loving way of course. If you want some single-origin beans with a dash of coffee education, this is the place to go. There’s cold brew, outside seating, Wi-Fi. Comet Coffee also considers itself a micro-bakery, so I hope you have a sweet tooth.
Blueprint Roasters

Blueprint Roasters is a coffee bar and a specialty roaster, making it yet another spot for coffee snobs. Sourcing beans ethically is one of this spot’s top priorities, so you know that every cup you sip will be part of the solution, not the problem. Learn about coffee and stay for some vegetarian and vegan-friendly food.
Northwest Coffee Roasting Company

This spot offers coffee from all over the world, and most beans are roasted on site. There are quite a few locations in St. Louis, some of which offer full breakfast and lunch menus. All of the locations have a few small bites and pastries so you won’t go hungry. If you’re really a coffee enthusiast, plan your hotel around one of the café’s locations so you can get in a steamy cup every morning. You can get some straight up brews, but there’s a nice menu of fancy espresso drinks, too.
Alpha Brewing Company

This downtown brewery is the brainchild of the head brewer, who holds a degree in biology. It’s a barebones tap room, but guests can bring their own food or order delivery so they can keep on tasting the beers. You’ll see a lot of traditional beers on tap as well as a few quirkier options like the Rumspringa, an acorn squash ale, and the Papaya Brett ale.
The Side Project Cellar

This is an interesting place to go, especially if you’re with someone who would rather drink wine than beer. It’s owned by a husband-and-wife duo who started off in the vineyards but decided to brew beer on the side. The beers are Belgian-inspired with a whole lot of farmhouse style beers and sours. If you’re only visiting St. Louis for the weekend, this is a top spot to mingle and get to know some of the locals.
Heavy Riff Brewing Company

This place has everything. Most of the beers on draft are made in house, with the exception of a few local and international crafts. The bar offers up barbecue food, a huge whiskey selection, and a solid collection of wine. It’s quite the hangout, too, as the bar has live music, darts, and shuffleboard.
There’s a ton to see and do when visiting St. Louis for the weekend, but you should make some time to sip and mingle, too! Start your day in the coffee shops and end a couple of them in the breweries if you can stay caffeinated long enough.
